Audi Urban Future Award 2012Vision In 2030, Istanbul runs on a transportation system with an online loyalty program called PARK. It does not offer miles for more miles. Instead, it offers more city to share with more shared mobility. Concept PARK is an online loyalty program of Istanbul’s transportation system that encourages people to reclaim their city by using intelligent driverless dolmuşes (shared taxis). Each dolmuş eliminates twenty vehicles from Istanbul traffic freeing up valuable space for new ideas in the city. At neighborhood scale, the process works like this: Points are gained for each trip made by dolmuş, and through PARK can be used to rent the no-longer-necessary parking spaces in front of one’s home, giving people more ownership and a sense of belonging to their streets. The future of democracy is in streets without parked cars!
At the city scale PARK works as a social-media application that transforms the gathering places of the city into platforms of democracy. For instance, proposals for a Sunday at Taksim Square are submitted for online voting via the application. Proposals that collect the most votes are put into action, as are proposals that receive the fewest votes, because only if the smallest minority too can express its thoughts in the public sphere there is an environment democratic.
This will enable people to use their creativity, gain experience in the realization of their ideas. All diverse social classes and groups will increase their confidence in their selves and in their dreams. The city squares, which for around 150 years have been the place for the ruling power to display and remind people of its might with monuments and statues of statesmen will be taken over by the people.
