Present Situation and the Journey of Commercial Buildings in the City

As a part of the Happiness Factories exhibition, Superpool explored the present and the recent history of commercial buildings in Istanbul. Following are the curator Sait Ali Köknar’s words to present our contribution:

‘Imagine a map that shows the number of shopping malls and offices in Istanbul, or lays out the districts where they are concentrated. The team of Superpool produced a map that not only juxtaposes the concentration of commercial buildings with such significant layers as transport systems, water reservoirs, and topography; it also reveals the movement of commercial districts within the city in the past few years. This is a migration without direction in the case of shopping malls and from towers to campuses in the case of office buildings…’
